01 The idea

A brain shaped by hearts.

Six forms built from hearts come together in the shape of a brain. You can feel the brain structure and still see the hearts. The parts feel individual, but they belong together.

That is Heartspring: clinical expertise and human care, many disciplines and one shared focus, with the child and family at the center.

  • Six forms built from heartsCare is built into the symbol and the Heartspring name.
  • Two hemispheresPaired forms suggest neurodevelopment.
  • A vertical axisA clear path toward the center.
  • Warm and cool colorsComplementary families hold warmth and clinical confidence together.
  • A shared focal pointDistinct parts come together around one purpose.

02 The film, frame by frame

Eight moments, and what each one means.

Tap a timecode to play the film from that moment, or tap any frame to see it larger. Fig. numbers match the labels in the lower corner of the film.

Fig. 02

The heart

For Heartspring, it begins with the heart.

The film opens on the piece worth carrying forward. The heart is drawn as two drops that meet in a point, and that same simple geometry returns in every part of the mark.

Fig. 03

Two hearts meet

The promise that no family has to find their way alone.

A second heart, in warm color, meets the first at the exact center of the mark. Neither one leads. They arrive together, and that meeting point becomes the center everything else is built around.

Fig. 04

The form unfolds

From that heart, a new form unfolds. Its contours echo the brain.

Four lobes open from the spine and settle flat, facing you, into the contour of a brain. The hearts are still there in every lobe. This is the folding idea from our October 1 conversation, brought to life.

Fig. 05

Front over back

Its folds bring together science and art.

Every piece is folded paper resting on the one beneath it. Nothing is cut away. The front of each heart lifts just slightly to show the layer under it, then settles back. The soft shadows are what give the mark its depth.

Science and art

The precision of clinical understanding, the warmth of human connection.

The cool family sits on one side of the spine and the warm family on the other. Navy, blue and teal carry clinical confidence. Yellow, orange and red carry warmth.

Six forms, one focus

Six distinct forms reach inward, bringing knowledge from multiple disciplines toward one shared focus.

Four lobes and two hearts, each one distinct, all pointing to the same place. Clinical care, education, family partnership and community services each bring something different. The mark gives that coming together a visible form.

Fig. 07 · Center

The child and family

The child and family.

The camera moves into the center, where every form meets. It does not need a separate dot or symbol. The center is simply the place everything points toward, and it belongs to the child and family.

Fig. 08

Space and presence

Space gives each form its own presence.

The spaces between the forms are part of the design. They let each piece hold its own shape and keep the mark clear at small sizes. One more slight lift shows the layers, then the mark settles into its final form.

03 Color

Clinical confidence, human warmth.

Two complementary families, one on each side of the spine. Together they say what Heartspring is: the precision of clinical understanding and the warmth of human connection.

05 The beliefs behind it

Five beliefs, one mark.

The values work with Ryan Entz at rentz Creative names five beliefs, one for each of Heartspring’s strategic foundations: hope, care, science, working together and action. Here they orbit the mark. Tap one to open it, or drag it and let it go.

06 For your review

What we would love to hear.

  1. Does the film tell the Heartspring story in a way you would be glad to share with your board?
  2. Does the meaning of each part come through: the hearts, the six forms and the shared center?
  3. Do the warm and cool color families feel right for Heartspring?
  4. Is there anything you would like adjusted before we move into final art?

Notes are easiest to match up when they mention a Fig. number or a timecode from the film.
